Let's explore the topics of rates and speed! On pages 1 and 2 of the workbook, Honest Al's Service Garage is busy! Read the clues and answer all the questions. On page 3, Fana, Bo, and Bana had a fun beach day out. They walked, ran, drifted on a unicorn float, and swam. Can you calculate their average speed?
Rates and speed are ways to measure how quickly something is happening. A rate tells us how much of something occurs in a certain amount of time, like earning $10 per hour. Speed is a specific kind of rate that tells us how fast something is moving, such as a car traveling at 60 miles per hour. You can use the formula speed = distance ÷ time to understand speed. For example, if you travel 120 miles in 2 hours, your speed is 120 miles ÷ 2 hours = 60 miles per hour.
