In guess your number, clues will be given and kids will need to work backwards through the clues such as "Subtract 5 from me. Then add 13 to me. If you multiply that by 3, you should get 57. What number did you get."
For older kids, this game is a great opportunity to apply their algebra skills. Even younger kids who are not yet familiar with algebra can still enjoy and learn from it. Here's how they might solve it:
If you divide 57 by 3, you get 19. Now, just reverse the steps that were completed: subtract 13 from 19, and then add 5. The original number was 11.
The trick is to use the opposite operation. If the clue direction is to add, you'll subtract to get to the original number!
