Triceratops
Triceratops (try-SAIR-ah-tops) belonged to a family of dinosaurs named Ceratopsidae. This group is known for their huge horned heads and neck frills. There were many different sizes and shapes of horns. Their bony horns might be long or short, straight or curved. Monoclonius had only one horn on its face. Pentaceratops had five! Ceratopians had heavy bodies and walked on all four feet. Their bodies were like that of the rhinoceros of today.
A ceratopian's neck frill was a collar of bone that grew behind the skull. It probably protected the neck from attack by predators like Tyrannosaurus. The neck frill might be solid, or it might have holes in it. It could be spiky, scalloped, or knobbed.
