Your Nervous System

Your nervous system makes your heart beat. It makes your lungs breathe. Your nervous system lets you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. It lets you learn. It lets you remember. It lets you have feelings. Your nervous system moves all of your muscles.

There are three parts to your nervous system. They are the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. The brain is found inside your head. The spinal cord is inside your backbone. Nerves are found all through your body.

The brain is a jelly-like organ. It is about the same size as your two fists pushed together. The brain is the control center of the nervous system. One part of your brain controls your breathing. It controls your heartbeat. It controls your digestion, too. These are things you don't even have to think about. Your brain just does them.
