Write a Headline Poem
Where do you find a headline poem? You go where the headlines are! They are found in newspapers and magazines. With some scissors, a glue stick, and some colored paper, you can create your own headline poetry. It's easy and fun!
Before you get started, relax. There are no rules. You don't have to make rhymes. You don't have to make complete sentences. Your lines can be any length you like, even a single word per line. This poetic project is fun!
You get started by cutting out words from headlines. Why headlines? Because that's where you will find the largest print. Cut out all kinds of words. You may need nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. You will want some tiny words like these: a, an, the, and, but, or, all, some, none, with. Maybe you will want some numbers. Cut out lots of words. Don't think about how you will use them. A large amount will give you more ideas and more choices.
