Reading Comprehension for August 25
The six Winn children had a good life. They had a mom and dad. They had two dogs, a cat, and a parrot. The oldest Winn child was called Cindy. Then there was Mindy Winn and Wendy Winn. There were also three boys. Their names were Billie, Willie, and baby Jack.
That was a lot of people and pets for one family! It made sense to get along. Kindness in the family was needed. The kids took turns in the bathroom. They took turns feeding their pets. The older ones helped the little ones get dressed. Each one had a job to do to keep the house clean. Baby Jack did not do much, but he was a good boy. He could put his toy cars in the toy bin.
One day Wendy was cross. She did not want to share the bathroom. She did not want to feed the dogs. She did not want to help Willie get dressed. She did not want to help cook a meal or sweep the floor. She did not want to have two sisters and three brothers.
Her family was too big. No one would miss her if she went away. She went to her bedroom. She hid under her bed. She lay very still. She fell asleep!
Cindy was busy. She helped Billie find his socks. She fed the cat. She fried some eggs. She dusted the table. She read a book to Jack.
Willie came into the room. He was not dressed.
"Willie!" Cindy cried. "Where is your shirt? Where are your pants?"
"I don't know," said little Willie. "Wendy did not help me get dressed today."
The dogs came into the room. Their noses dragged the ground.
