William McKinley was the twenty-fifth president. He was born in Ohio in 1843. He went to college and then taught school. The Civil War broke out. He joined as a private in the Union Army. He served his country well. After the war was over, he studied law. McKinley opened a law office in Ohio. He ran for Congress at age 34. He served for fourteen years in the House of Representatives.
