What to Do When Friends Disagree
Morgan knew it was going to be a hard day when Tiffany threw a brown plastic horse on the dining room floor and stomped out of the room. Tiffany was Morgan's best friend. Why was it so hard for them to work together?
Morgan and Tiffany had signed up to make a diorama for social studies class. A diorama is a scene in a box. Their class was studying the Wild West. Tiffany collected horse models. Since she had dozens of stallions, mares, and foals in every imaginable pose and color, she had the perfect idea. She suggested creating a scene of wild horses stampeding across the frontier. Morgan loved the plan. Soon, the two friends were making plans to create an A+ diorama.
Unfortunately, both girls discovered that even good friends could disagree about a project. Each girl had a different plan. Morgan wanted to have only two large horses riding across the plains. She wanted to show an Indian peering out of a teepee watching them. Tiffany wanted to have a whole herd of horses, but she didn't want any people in the scene! What could they do to work out this problem?
The friends argued. Morgan got mad when Tiffany threw the horse and stomped off. She didn't like it when Tiffany got huffy and red. Morgan liked to stay calm. While Tiffany sulked in her room, Morgan went out to the kitchen. Tiffany's mom, Ms. Tact, knew that the girls had had a fight. She knew that friends sometimes had trouble working things out, and she wanted to help.
"What happened, Morgan?" asked Ms. Tact.
"Tiffany and I had a fight about the diorama," said Morgan.
"I'll go get her," said Ms. Tact. "I am sure you girls can work this out."
Ms. Tact got a red-eyed Tiffany from her room. The girls and Ms. Tact sat down together.
