What Is Braille?
Books can open up new worlds for people. But what happens if a person can't see? Blind people can read, too. They read with their fingertips! They use a system of writing and printing called Braille. A blind Frenchman named Louis Braille invented it in the 19th century. The Braille system uses combinations of up to six dots. The dots are arranged in two columns with possibly three dots in each column. The different patterns of dots stand for numbers and letters. Some stand for common words.
