United States Trade Representative
The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is in charge of trade between our country and other countries. It is an agency of more than 200 employees. These employees are professionals with lots of experience in trade issues and regions of the world. The head of the office is the U.S. Trade Representative. This is a cabinet-level position. He or she is not officially part of the president's cabinet. This person serves as the president's principal trade advisor, negotiator, and spokesperson on trade issues. The office is part of the Executive Office of the President. It was created in 1962. The USTR has an office in Washington D.C. It also has offices in Geneva, Switzerland, and Brussels, Belgium.
The United States has many trade agreements with countries around the world. It is also negotiating new agreements with a number of countries and regions. These trade agreements help create new opportunities for all Americans. New opportunities can improve our quality of life.
