Twinkle, Twinkle
Josie sat on her bed. She was looking out the window. It was very dark. The stars were twinkling in the sky. Josie loved the stars. She started to sing. "Twinkle, twinkle, little star. How I . . ."
Josie saw a light that was not twinkling. It was shiny. It looked like it was moving. But it was not twinkling. Josie wondered what it was. She lay down to think about it. Soon she was fast asleep.
The next morning Josie thought about the light again. "I know!" she thought. "I will ask Mr. Ward." Josie walked quickly to school. Mr. Ward was in his classroom.
"Mr. Ward, Mr. Ward!" Josie said. "I saw something in the sky last night. It was shiny. It was moving a little bit. But it was not twinkling! What was it?"
Mr. Ward smiled. He opened his book. "Look, Josie. Read this. This may be what you saw."
Josie started to read.
Do you like stars? Where are they? Stars are in the sky. You can see them at night. There are many stars. Stars are very far away. There are many other things in the sky.
There are satellites. Satellites are big. People build satellites. People put satellites on rockets. People send rockets into space. Satellites stay in space.
Satellites are closer than stars. Satellites stay close to Earth. Satellites move around the Earth. They move very fast. There are many satellites in space. What do they do?
