The Write Stuff

Lydia ran her fingers along the leather cover of her new journal and sighed. There was something very comfortable about the feel of a real book - a book in which she could write her own thoughts and ideas without pressing keys or buttons. She was so glad that her sister Maddie had given her this large journal for her birthday.

Just as Lydia was thinking about this, Maddie tapped on her bedroom door. "May I come in?" she said.

"Sure," Lydia said, jumping up onto her bed and crossing her legs.

"So you like the journal, then?" Maddie said, noticing how carefully Lydia was holding it.

"Yes, I like it very much. I look forward to writing in it."

Maddie smiled. "I've noticed that you're writing longhand more often lately and that you like to write using all your different pens."

"Yes," Lydia agreed. "I love my laptop and write a lot on the computer. But lately I've felt a craving to write the old-fashioned way - on paper with pens. It just feels right."

"I know what you mean," Maddie said. "I like to work on my handwriting, too. You can't do that when you type all the time. I want my handwriting to be neat and distinctive."
