The Water Cycle: Powered by the Sun
Water is always moving on Earth. Sometimes you can see it moving. Water rolls and ripples in rivers. It sloshes and splashes in seas. It falls from the sky as rain. How does water get up there?
The sun's heat turns liquid water into water vapor. We say that it evaporates. You may have noticed puddles after a rain. Later, the water in the puddle is gone. Where did it go? It turned into an invisible gas called water vapor. Water evaporates and becomes part of the air. This happens not only in small puddles, but in lakes, rivers, and oceans, too. The sun heats the water. Some of it changes state, from a liquid state to a gas. The water vapor rises. Water in the air forms clouds.
When water droplets in clouds get too big and heavy, gravity pulls them down. They fall .....
