Jennifer waved goodbye to her mom and went into the dance studio. She walked down the hall to the dressing room and put down her bag. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out her new tap shoes. She held them up and admired the beautiful, shiny, black leather. After she put them on, she noticed they were tight in a few spots. She hoped they would loosen up as she wore them. She didn't want to get a blister before the performance for National Tap Dance Day.
She practiced a few steps. "Tippity, tap, tap, tap," went her shoes on the tile floor of the dressing room.
More of her classmates came in to get ready for class.
"Hi, Jenny," said Marybeth as she put her bag down on the bench.
"Hi, Marybeth," said Jenny. "How are you?"
"I'm great. Hey, you got new shoes! They're pretty. Are they for the performance?" asked Marybeth as she sat down on the bench.
"Yes, Mom took me shopping the other day. I hope they loosen up for the show. They're a little tight in a few places," said Jenny, moving her feet around on the floor.
Marybeth pulled her shoes out of her bag. She put them on her feet and tied the bows. "I'm sure they will be fine. My shoes were new at the beginning of the year, and they loosened up pretty quickly."
"That's nice to know," said Jenny, smiling and tapping her toes on the floor.
Their instructor, Miss Tanner, came in and called to the girls. "Time for class. We have a lot to practice for the show."
