She was gone. Michael knew she was lost. It was his fault. He left the cage door open. Now she was gone. His pet snake was gone. He would never find her. Poor Sammy!
Michael walked into the kitchen. He was so sad.
"What's wrong?" his sister asked.
"Nothing," Michael said.
"Are you sick?" his mother asked.
"No, I'm OK," he answered.
"Do you need some help?" his father asked.
"I don't know," he said. "Sammy is gone."
His sister screamed. She did not like snakes. She was afraid of them. So was his mother.
