The Rain Forest in Daylight

The rain forest has two faces, one for day and one for night. The night face is one of hidden mystery and darkness. The day face of the rain forest is a shady green with flashes of color.

Dawn and dusk are busy times in rain forests. At dawn, some animals have been awake all night and are getting ready to rest. Others are just waking up. Some rain forest animals never seem to rest. Ants seem to work all the time. They take short naps. Sometimes fifty different kinds of ants may live in one tree! There are tens of thousands of different kinds of insects in rain forests.

Butterflies are like moving flowers in the rain forest. One birdwing butterfly has a twelve-inch wingspan! It lives in the rain forests of Southeast Asia.
