The Litter Box
Cats that live indoors need a place to go to the bathroom. Indoor cats need litter boxes. Litter boxes need to be kept clean or cats won't use them. Also, a dirty litter box can make your house smell bad.
A kitten needs to be trained where the litter box is. A cat wants to be clean and will learn to use a litter box quickly. Pick your cat up often and take it to the litter box. Set the animal gently into it. If your animal goes the bathroom where it shouldn't, take it to the litter box and set the cat into it. Your cat should learn quickly that this is where it is supposed to go to the bathroom.
If you live in a two-story house, you should have a litter box on each floor. A cat should have a litter box that is big enough for it to turn around in. If the litter box is too small, the cat may refuse to use it.
