What could be better on a hot summer day than an ice cream cone? It's a sweet, creamy treat that melts as fast as you can lick it. It wasn't all that long ago when the ice cream cone was invented.
Ice cream cones would be pretty bare without the ice cream. One of the first mentions of something similar to ice cream was during the time of the Roman emperor, Nero. He wanted a sweet, cool treat, so he sent some of his slaves to get snow from the mountains. This snow was mixed with honey and mashed fruit.
When Marco Polo returned to Europe from China, he brought many Chinese recipes with him. Some of them were for frozen creams and ices.
