The Bladder
What is a bladder, anyway? Your bladder is like a bag made of muscle. When the kidneys filter your blood, there is waste left over. The kidneys mix the waste with water. The mixed waste and water is called urine. It flows down two tubes (one from each kidney) called ureters into your bladder.
The amount of urine that your bladder can hold is different from the amount of urine other bladders can hold. Some people's bladders can hold a lot of urine. Some people's bladders can only hold a little urine.
When your bladder is about half full, your bladder sends a signal to your brain that you need to urinate. It is important to pay attention to these signals. Urinate as soon as possible. "Holding it" for long periods of time can cause many bladder problems.
