Tears

People may cry in pain, but we also shed tears of emotion. We cry when we're sad. We cry when we're very happy. We cry when we're mad. We cry when we're afraid. We cry when we feel deep emotions. Tears are made by the body's lacrimal glands, also known as tear glands. Tear glands are under our eyelids. Tears pass through small ducts to the eyes. Tears are 98 percent water. Did you know that there are three kinds of tears?

There are basal tears. These are always flowing to bathe our eyes and keep them moist and healthy. Our body makes these even when we are asleep. These tears are a blend of oils, mucous, proteins, and water. These tears keep our vision clear. They clean our eyes by washing away dust. They make our eyes comfortable so it doesn't hurt to blink. Blinking moves the tears around the eyeball. On average, we blink twelve times every minute!
