I love summertime! Don't you? I love long days and melting popsicles. I love running through the sprinklers and reading a good book outside in the grass. I wish that it could be summer all the time. Believe it or not, some parts of the world get to experience summer-like weather all year long.
The Earth is divided in half by an imaginary line called the equator. The top half of the planet is known as the Northern Hemisphere. The bottom half is called the Southern Hemisphere. The Earth orbits around the sun on a tilted axis all year long. When the North Pole is leaning toward the sun, it is summer for the Northern Hemisphere. The sun's rays hit this part of the planet directly. They transmit a lot of energy and create warm weather. While the North Pole is leaning toward the sun, the South Pole is leaning away from it. The sun's rays reach this hemisphere indirectly. It is winter for this part of the planet.
