Steven Kroll is an author. He has written more than ninety-five children's books! Writing is something that he loves to do. In some ways, it comes naturally to him. He never has trouble thinking about what to write. He sees story ideas all around him. Many of his stories came from the neighborhood where he grew up.
Steven Kroll didn't have a typical childhood. He grew up in New York City. His father often traveled to Europe to buy diamonds. He brought them home and sold them in his store on Fifth Avenue. Steven and his family lived in an apartment on the Upper West Side. Steven Kroll loved everything about his neighborhood. His neighbors were from all over the world. Each had different beliefs. They also liked different kinds of foods. As Steven Kroll walked around his neighborhood, he saw little pieces of life from around the world. He saw it in the shops and restaurants as he walked down the street. It made him curious. Just walking around his neighborhood inspired him. It made him want to travel. It made him want to tell stories. It made him want to write!
