Stella gently turned the pages of her book in the quiet stillness of the library. The twists and turns of the heroine's high school life made Stella sigh wistfully. The girl in the book was homecoming queen and the class valedictorian with excellent grades. She also had a cute boyfriend. Stella's life had never been that fulfilling. She was now a senior, and she knew she should be happy about her upcoming graduation. However, she wished that she had had more adventures during her high school years.
"Enjoying your book, dear?" asked a soft voice.
Stella looked up into the serene face of an older woman who was carefully pushing a library cart full of books. Stella did not recognize her as one of the regular library volunteers. The woman had soft blonde hair with wisps that radiated out from her head like a halo. Her pale blue eyes were fixed intently on Stella.
"Yes, I am. This book is about a girl in high school whose life is much more exciting than mine," said Stella, surprised that she wanted to confide in this woman.
"It would be nice to be able to rewrite your own book of high school life, wouldn't it?" asked the woman.
"Yes, it would," sighed Stella. "Too bad it is not possible."
"Maybe it is," said the woman.
Stella felt a chill go down her spine. The woman's comment reminded her of a sci-fi movie or an episode of The Outer Limits on television. The odd but kind woman seemed serious.
