"Wave goodbye to Mommy," said Grandma. Felix and his grandmother stood at the window and waved to Felix's mother as she drove away.
"Bye-bye, car seat. Bye-bye, red car. Bye, Mommy," said Felix. His mommy was waving from inside the car as she drove off. Felix turned to his grandmother, "Can we read a story now?"
"Yes, dear, let's read a story together," said Grandma. Felix picked out Where The Wild Things Are from the book basket and climbed up on Grandma's lap. Grandma began reading, "The night Max wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind..."
At first, it was hard for Felix to say goodbye to his mommy. He cried and cried the first day she went back to work. He hung on to her leg and cried the second day. On the third day, Grandma took Felix to the window and said, "Let's watch Mommy go bye-bye. We can wave bye-bye together. We can wave bye-bye to your car seat. We can wave bye-bye to the black tires and bye-bye to Mommy's red car. We can wave bye-bye to Mommy from the window." And that's what they did. Then Grandma asked Felix to pick out a book he wanted to read. They spent the next few minutes exploring the adventures of Where The Wild Things Are, Russell the Sheep, and Click, Clack, Moo.
