"What are you playing with?" Jamelle asked his neighbor Toby.
"Silly Putty," Toby said simply, while forming a gummy substance into a ball.
"I've never heard of Silly Putty," Jamelle said.
"Grandma says it's been around since 1950," Toby said.
"No kidding!"
"She said that she played with it a lot when she was a little girl."
"What do you do with it?" Jamelle asked.
Instead of responding, Toby began to do different things with the Silly Putty. He rolled it into a ball and bounced it on the sidewalk. He stretched it out, making it look like a long string. Then he rolled it back into a ball again, and they tossed it back and forth.
"Can I play with it for a minute?" Jamelle asked.
