Children grow up to become adults. When they do, they move out on their own and start taking care of themselves. They don't have someone to buy the things they want and need for them anymore. One of the things they have to start buying for themselves is food.
Food isn't cheap. Of course, some things are cheaper than others. Many people have run short on money and have had to make do with what little they had on hand until they got paid again. Everyone likes to go to the movies or buy the newest music. But you can't do this if it means spending the money you need to use for groceries. Grocery money should only be used for groceries. Making sure you have enough money for food is very important.
For one month, write down how much money you spend on food each week. Don't forget to include the extra stops that you make when you run out of something during the week. Also write down all you spend for food that you buy at restaurants and take-out food. At the end of the month, add up how much money you spent. Then divide that total by four. That is about how much you spend each week on food. You might be surprised at how much you have spent. A lot of people are surprised by the weekly cost of their food. When you make a lot of little stops, you don't realize how much you are spending until you see the total written down on paper.
You may see how much you are spending on food and decide that you need to cut down on your spending. There are ways to do that. One of the first things to do is to stop eating out during the week.
