Road Trip

The gentle movement of the car had succeeded in keeping the children quiet for several hours as they slept. Now the sun was coming up on the left side of the car, and Tammy was starting to stir a little bit in the back seat. Her younger brother, Mike, was still fast asleep.

"Are we in Florida yet, Mom?" asked Tammy as she wiped the sleep from her eyes and brushed her long blond hair away from her face.

"No, not yet, honey, but we are making very good time," said Mom as she turned in her seat to look at Tammy. "Besides, remember we are not going straight to Florida. We need to stop by your Aunt Brenda's house in South Carolina tonight. Then we will go on down to Florida tomorrow."

"Where are we?" asked Mike as he sat up in his seat and looked out the window. "Are we there yet?"

"No, not yet," said Mom and Dad in unison as smiles spread across their faces.

Then Mom said, "We crossed the border into North Carolina a little while ago. We should be at Aunt Brenda's house in a couple of hours. Then you two can run and play in her backyard and stretch your legs."

"Do you think there will be snow at Aunt Brenda's?" asked Mike. "I'd love to make a snowman or go sledding."

"No, dear. Just because we had snow in Ohio doesn't mean everyone has snow. It will be too warm in South Carolina for snow," Mom said.

"Hey, did you see that?" asked Tammy. "That car that just passed us had a South Carolina license plate on it. It had some kind of tree on a sticker that had the state name on it, too. What do you think that means?"
