Have you ever gotten your mords wixed up? I mean, have you ever gotten your words mixed up? The Reverend William Archibald Spooner had problems with his words. He is famous for some of his blunders. For instance, once he found a lady sitting in his seat in church. He politely told her, "Mardon me, padam, this pie is occu-pewed. Can I sew you to another sheet?" If you are having trouble understanding what Reverend Spooner wanted, he was saying, "Pardon me, madam, this pew is occupied. Can I show you to another seat?"
Reverend Spooner was born on July 22, 1844, in London, England. He was a very intelligent man. He became an Anglican priest and teacher. He taught at Oxford University for sixty years. He was dean of the university from 1876 to 1889. He became president of the university in 1903 and served until 1924.
Reverend Spooner was not much to look at. He was an albino. This condition left his skin very pale and pinkish in color. His eyesight was very poor. He was small and stooped over. That's what he looked like on the outside. Inside, he was a kind and friendly man.
