Reading Comprehension for August 20
"Grandpa, I just got an audio tape that you will really like!" said Josh as he let the screen door to his grandparents' home slam behind him.
"Not some of that music you like so much, I hope?" asked Grandpa as he frowned at Josh.
"Nope," said Josh with a smile. "I know you don't like that musical style. This is different. Just let me put this on so I can see your face when it starts."
Grandpa nodded his head grudgingly and leaned back in his chair. Perhaps it wouldn't be too bad, he thought. If it was, he could always take out his hearing aid so it wouldn't irritate him too much.
The next sounds were familiar, but he couldn't quite place them. Then came words he knew well.
"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men..."
Grandpa suddenly sat straight up in his chair and answered back with an imitation of the voice on the tape, "the Shadow knows!" Then he laughed with the evil laugh that echoed from the tape.
He smiled broadly at the amused face of his grandson as the two of them sat silently and listened to the recording of the old half-hour radio program. When it was over, Josh turned the tape over so they could listen to the other side.
