Rachel Interviews Hasan the Hissing Cockroach
"Good morning, boys and girls. I'm Rachel Scott, the host of Bugs Beyond Belief. Today's guest is something of a star although I don't exactly know why. He's big, fairly ugly, and honestly, a little scary looking. His name is Hasan, and he's a hissing cockroach. Hello, Hasan."
"Hello, Rachel. You're right. I'm certainly not the most handsome bug you've ever seen. But if you want to get into good Hollywood parties, I'm your guy."
"Really? Well, let's start with a little about you. Where are you from, Hasan?"
"We're native to Madagascar. That's a big island off the southeastern coast of Africa. Sometimes we're called Madagascar cockroaches. Most hissing cockroaches live under logs."
"I don't know that I've ever seen a cockroach as big as you."
"You haven't. We're actually the largest species of cockroaches. We can grow to be three inches long. And with that size, we surely do look scary."
"Absolutely. To be honest, I'm terrified of cockroaches. If I ever saw something as big as you in my kitchen, I'd die of a heart attack."
"Would you be surprised to know that many hissing cockroaches are kept as pets?"
