Peter owned a crazy dog. This dog was different from any other dog in the neighborhood. He was small, only weighing about seven pounds (the dog, not Peter). Peter would often carry the dog from place to place as he visited friends after school each day. His friends would always laugh at the tiny pup, but they loved him too.
Peter's pup loved to run in circles. One of his favorite games was "Monkey in the Middle." He could play this game for hours. As the kids would throw a ball back and forth, he would jump up and try to catch it. He especially enjoyed when they would throw grapes.
Grapes? A dog that likes grapes? That's right. Peter's pup was crazy for grapes. Peter and his friends lived in the Napa Valley of California, a wonderful area for vineyards. Most of the people in Peter's neighborhood had at least one row of grape vines. The kids would toss grapes that had fallen off the vine, and sometimes Peter's pup would catch one. Peter's pup was the only dog they knew that liked grapes so much.
