Poison Dart Frogs

Poison dart frogs are tiny, colorful frogs. They live in the rain forests in Central and South America. Poison dart frogs are also called arrow-poison frogs, poison arrow frogs, or dart frogs.

Poison dart frogs have some unusual habits. Most frogs are nocturnal, or active at night. Poison dart frogs are diurnal, or active during the day. They are also very involved parents. The mother frogs lay their eggs on leaves. When the eggs hatch, the father frogs carry the young tadpoles on their backs to puddles of water. The water could be in bromeliads, plants that hold little pockets of water. Sometimes the mother poison dart frogs lay eggs in the water.
