Penny's Pennies

Reading Comprehension for May 23

Penny got a piggy bank when she turned five. Every week, she got an allowance. She got 10 cents for each chore she did. She made her bed. She picked up her toys. She helped Mom and Dad around the house. She marked a chart every day. This showed what she had done.

On Saturday, her mom added up the marks. Then she paid Penny out of her big penny jar. At first, Penny thought pennies didn't mean much. Mom had a lot of them. It didn't seem like a lot of money. Mom said she was saving them toward a trip. They would be going to Disney World.

Penny decided she would save her pennies, too. For many months, Penny put her pennies in her bank. Her mom kept saving pennies, too.

Finally, it was a week before the trip. Mom said, "Let's take our banks to the bank!" They went in the bank and turned in their pennies.
