Pat Nixon was born in Nevada in 1912. Her birth name was Thelma Catherine Ryan. Her father nicknamed her "Pat" just hours after she was born. Pat's mother died when she was 13. Pat had to take care of her father and two brothers. When Pat was 18, her father died. Pat worked many jobs to put herself through college. She graduated with honors.
