"Once upon a time," Caitlyn's mother said, "babies did not have names like Caitlyn, Gabriel, or Haley. They had color names like Indigo, Violet, or Yellow. This story is about how those babies got their names.
When a baby was born, its mother looked at its feet. The color of the bottoms of the baby's feet became its name. We still use some of those names for babies now. I have an aunt named Violet.
It was a beautiful spring day. The sun was shining. The sky was blue. There were a few puffy white clouds in the sky. Pretty flowers grew in the soft meadow grass. It was a great day to be outside.
Many of the mothers had brought their babies outside. Indigo was playing with Red and Blue on a blanket. Brown and Orange, the twins, were in a playpen. Green, Yellow, and Violet were rolling in the grass. All the babies were happy. They were having fun.
