Out With the Old, In With the New
Did you know that paper money doesn't last forever? When paper money is too old or too worn out, it is taken out of circulation. New bills are then printed to replace the old ones. Every day the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) receives and replaces thousands of worn-out bills. Some of these bills are torn or ripped. Others have been mangled or nearly destroyed. The BEP receives money that has been stuffed in mattresses, damaged by fire, and even money that has been partially eaten by animals.
