Gabriel lives in Kissimmee, Florida. Florida is a peninsula. A peninsula is surrounded by water on three sides. Florida is in the southern part of the United States. Kissimmee is just about in the middle of Florida.
The area where Gabriel lives is famous for its citrus fruit. There are many kinds of citrus fruit. There are oranges and grapefruit. There are lemons and limes. Some have strange names like blood oranges and pummelo. And then there are tangerines and mandarin oranges. And there are even more kinds of citrus fruit.
Gabriel loves oranges, all kinds of oranges. He eats them for breakfast on pancakes and French toast. He eats orange jelly on his biscuits. He likes orange muffins, too. He can eat oranges anytime, not just for breakfast!
Gabriel's favorite is the temple orange. Temple oranges are easy to peel, spicy sweet, and very juicy! That's good because Gabriel really likes orange juice. Gabriel has temple orange trees in his backyard. His parents let him pick oranges from those trees anytime.
Gabriel's father told him that oranges have lots of vitamin C in them. Vitamin C helps our bodies grow and repair their tissues. Vitamin C is important in making skin, tendons, and blood vessels. Without vitamin C, our bodies would not heal and our bones and teeth would be in bad shape. Gabriel knows all about why citrus fruits are good for us. That is not why he drinks orange juice, though. He drinks it because he likes the taste.
