Sydney loved Saturday mornings. It was the one day of the week that wasn't rushed. On Saturday morning, all the family slept in, got up when they felt like it, and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast.
On the first Saturday of every month, the family always had homemade waffles. In Sydney's opinion, that was the best breakfast of all. And, this was the Saturday for waffles!
Dad was already down in the kitchen. Waffle day was his specialty. Sydney yawned and stretched, swinging her legs over the side of her bed. She slipped her feet into her fuzzy slippers (the pink ones she got for Christmas this past year). She padded down the stairs and slipped onto a seat at the breakfast bar.
"Good morning, sweetheart," Dad said.
Sydney was the first one up, and she was glad to have Dad's attention to herself.
"Good morning, Daddy. That coffee smells good."
Dad always brewed a fresh batch of coffee on Saturday morning. Although he and Mom were the only ones who drank it, the kids loved the aroma.
"Can I help you with something?" Sydney asked.
