Not Just Soldiers

Memorial Day is when we honor those who fought for America's freedom and died in service to our country. Today we have a strong military, but that wasn't the case during the American Revolution.
The British soldiers were professional soldiers. They were paid to fight battles. That was their main job. The Continental Army was different. It was made up of men who were fighting for a cause. They were shoemakers, lawyers, farmers, and students. They were not professional soldiers, but they had a dream.
They wanted to live in a free country. They often had little food and no shoes or proper winter clothes, but that didn't stop them. They were willing to fight for what they wanted. They were willing to sacrifice their lives for the dream of freedom.
