It's a ski jump! It's a cross-country ski race! It's both! This is the Nordic combined. It is two snow sports combined into one.
In the Nordic combined, athletes compete in two events in one day. First they ski jump. Then, they compete in a cross-country ski race. These athletes have to be brave. They also have to have a lot of endurance.
There are three different events in the Nordic combined. Athletes can compete on their own or as a team. In all three events, skiers jump down a hill and then ski down to the bottom of it. In one event, skiers jump from a normal hill. In another event, skiers jump from a large hill. In the third event, teams of four men jump from the normal hill. During each event judges score the jumpers. They are looking at the athlete's form. They are also looking at the athlete's distance.
