"Time to get up, Nan," said Mom. She looked in the bedroom. "Are you awake yet?" she asked.
Nan stretched her arms above her head. Then she wiggled her fingers.
"I am awake," she said finally.
"That's good," said Mom. "Get dressed and come down for breakfast."
Nan hopped out of bed. She looked at the clothes laid on her chair. Her favorite dress was rumpled. Her jeans were not very clean. All her favorite tops were in the clothes hamper.
"Mom," she called. "I don't know what to wear."
"Well," said Mom, "You need to choose something. Hurry up."
Nan sighed. She picked up the dress and gave it a shake. It would have to do. She went down and sat at the kitchen table.
