Naming the Continents

Look at a globe. It is a model of our Earth. Earth is shaped like a ball or a sphere. What colors do you see on the globe? You see a lot of blue. That's the water in Earth's oceans. Earth has more water than land. There are seven large masses of land called continents. Number one is Asia. It is the biggest continent. It has the smallest name. It is home to many different countries. Africa is number two in size. Over fifty countries are found in Africa.


North America is number three. Only three countries are found on it. Canada is in the north. The United States is in the middle. Mexico is in the south. South America is number four. It joins North America with a narrow piece of land. South America is home to the biggest rain forest on Earth.


Antarctica is number five in size. It is at the bottom of the globe. The South Pole is found there. Antarctica is covered with ice that is a mile thick! There are no countries on this continent.
