I went on a kayak for the first time on Wednesday. My older brother and I were at Camp Hokenhobben for two weeks right after school let out. We were allowed to choose from several activities, and one of them was kayaking.
We were to meet the kayak guide at the shore of Lake Genesis where the camp was located. Then we would paddle across the lake and into a river fed by the lake.
When we got there, the guide assigned us each to a kayak, gave us a life jacket apiece, and a paddle. I hooked up my life jacket and stepped into the kayak. It rolled a little, but I kept my balance. I slid down into it, stretched out my legs, and before he gently pushed my boat into the lake, the guide handed me my paddle.
