Military Air Forces
Countries have had armies to defend them for thousands of years. Navies, too, have been in use for a very long time. Air forces, though, are less than one hundred years old.
The first air forces came into being just before the start of World War I. The first airplane flight had been accomplished by the Wright brothers only a few years before in 1903. By the end of World War I, thousands of planes made up the air forces of the world. World War I boosted the development of aircraft.
