Miley Cyrus is an actress, singer, and songwriter. She was born on November 23, 1992. Her name at birth was Destiny Hope Cyrus. Her parents, Billy Ray and Leticia "Tish" Cyrus, gave her this name because they thought she would accomplish great things with her life. As a baby, she was given the nickname "Smiley" because she smiled so much. Eventually, this nickname was shortened to Miley. In 2008, she legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus. Her godmother is the country music star Dolly Parton.
Miley got her first acting job in 2003. Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is also a musician and actor. She got a small part on her father's television show Doc. In 2006, Miley auditioned for a new television show for the Disney Channel. The show's title was Hannah Montana. It was about a girl named Miley Stewart, who lives a normal life but is secretly a rock star named Hannah Montana. Miley auditioned for the roles of both the main character and the best friend. She did not get the job at first because the people casting the show thought she was too young and too small for the part. However, they were impressed that Miley could both act and sing. Miley was called in for another audition and was given the lead role.
