Mantellas
Mantellas are tiny, colorful frogs. They range from one to two inches in length. Most mantellas have bright patches of orange, yellow, red, green, or blue on their bodies. The bright colors are a warning to predators. Mantellas don't taste very good. All are poisonous. Some are more poisonous than others. Some can make predators very sick.
Mantellas live on the island of Madagascar. They live in rain forests, or in areas that are very wet. Mantellas live in groups. A group of mantellas is called an army. Mantellas are diurnal. This means they hunt for food during the day. Most frogs are nocturnal. Being diurnal helps mantellas avoid running into predators. Mantellas eat ants, termites, and fruit flies.
Mantellas don't have webbed feet like most frogs. They don't spend their time swimming around. Mantellas are mainly terrestrial animals. This means they spend most of their time on the ground. Their legs are short. This makes them better at climbing than hopping.
