"Mr. Roberts is retiring," Susan said to David as she set a plate on the breakfast table.
David looked up from the newspaper he was reading. "No kidding."
"He is quitting his job at the end of the month."
"Wow," David said. "He's been our mailman for a very long time."
"Yes, he has," Susan said, pouring herself another cup of coffee. "He has delivered our mail ever since we moved into this subdivision 12 years ago."
David took a bite of toast. "He's delivered a lot to us, hasn't he?" He grinned.
Susan smiled, too. "Yes. Wedding invitations. Vacation postcards. Birthday greetings. Refund checks, and of course, bills."
"I could have passed on those," David said with a laugh.
