Make an Emergency Aid
Katie was ready to start making some money of her own. Her mom said she could start babysitting. Katie thought that was a good idea. Her mom signed her up for a class about how to babysit.
Katie was enjoying the class. She was learning a lot of things she needed to know to be a good babysitter. Today's class was about making an emergency aid.
The teacher said that in an emergency, every second counts. Looking in the phone book for numbers can take too much time. She said every babysitter should carry an emergency aid with her. She said it was also a good thing to have at home.
The teacher told Katie's class that an emergency aid is a list of telephone numbers. These are numbers you might need when there is trouble, such as a serious injury, sickness, a break-in, or fire.
Katie learned about the numbers she should include on her emergency aid. She should include the police, fire department, and ambulance numbers for her community. During class, the students used the white pages to look up these important numbers. These numbers should go with Katie every time she goes to babysit. Since Katie had her own cellphone, she could put these numbers directly into her phone. In addition, Katie learned that she should ask everyone she sits for to write down some more numbers for her.
