Lynn was babysitting for the first time. She was going to watch the Smith children, Dan and Amy. Lynn was a little nervous. She tried to remember all the things she learned from her babysitting course.
Lynn took a pad and pencil with her. When she got to the house where she was babysitting, she asked Mrs. Smith for some information. Lynn wrote down the name of the place the Smiths were going to. She also wrote down the phone number. Mrs. Smith gave Lynn her cell phone number and Mr. Smith's, also.
Lynn also wrote down the address of the house where she was. Mrs. Smith told Lynn that in an emergency she should contact the children's grandmother. Lynn wrote down the grandmother's name and phone number. She also got the name of the children's doctor and his phone number. She wrote down the name and number of a helpful neighbor, also. Now she had her emergency aid all filled out.
Lynn had asked Mrs. Smith to write down any special rules and regulations the parents had for the children. She also asked her to write down Dan's and Amy's bedtimes. Mrs. Smith handed her the information. Directions for giving Amy her cold medicine were also written there. Mrs. Smith went over all this information with Lynn.
Lynn met the children. She greeted them with a big smile. Before the Smiths left, Lynn also met the family dog, Buddy. He was a friendly dog and seemed to like Lynn right away. She was relieved.
Mrs. Smith gave Lynn a little quiz. "Do you know what to do if there is a fire?" she asked.
"Get everyone out of the house, then go to a neighbor's house and call 911. I know to call 911 if there is any emergency," Lynn told her.
"Great," said Mrs. Smith, "hopefully you won't have any problems."
"I think we'll be just fine," Lynn said.
The Smiths kissed the kids good-bye. "Remember, no junk food before bed. If you want a snack, you can have some cheese and crackers," Mrs. Smith said. Lynn was glad to know this. She had forgotten to ask about bedtime snacks.
When the Smiths left, Lynn went around and locked all the doors and windows. She turned the porch light on. Then she went to play with Dan and Amy. She got out her babysitting bag she had filled with books, toys, and art supplies. They had fun making pictures and playing games.
