People in love sometimes can't help staring into each other's eyes. Strangely enough, this behavior also applies to some pet owners. Llama owners, in particular, enjoy the lovely dark eyes and fluttering eyelashes of their gentle friends! Some llama fans might even describe their experience with llamas as "love at first flutter."
Llamas have shaggy fur, which makes them look plump. Llamas often have white fur. They can also be white with black or brown patches, solid black, or brown. This lovely shaggy coat can be used to make wool. Farmers shear them. Some people feel that llama wool is not as high quality as alpaca wool, but that is a matter of personal preference. Spinners and fiber artists love soft llama wool for making clothing, hats, sweaters, and many other items.
However fat they may appear because of their shaggy coats, llamas have slender bodies under all that fluff. Llamas are built a bit like a camel. They have long necks and skinny legs. Their thick lips make them skilled at spitting when annoyed. They are normally placid creatures, but they will spit if they get mad. Llamas also have a special way of showing they like another llama: they hum!
